Canadian page program


















Each year, 15 students from across Canada are selected to participate in this program. As a Senate page you would be responsible for providing a range of services to ensure the effective operation of the Senate and its committees.

In return, you will witness parliamentary history as bills are debated, amended, and become law and when Senate committees discuss draft reports that influence public policy. All relevant travel expenses are paid to get you to Ottawa and home again after your contract is completed.

Senate pages are an intricate part of the Red Chamber and its operations. During the spring of , the Senate of Canada adapted its processes and implemented measures to ensure a safe and healthy work environment for employees during the COVID pandemic. In addition to meeting the eligibility requirements indicated above, to be selected, candidates must demonstrate:. The page program application process runs from September until the end of March. As a first step, candidates must submit their completed online application by the deadline: November 7, Candidates must submit their application through the House of Commons career portal by the deadline.

Applications are being reviewed and evaluated. Selected candidates will be invited by email to the next step in the process. Unsuccessful candidates will also be notified by email. Selected applicants will be invited to undergo a second-language evaluation SLE , which takes place over the telephone. Candidates who pass their SLE will be invited to an interview. Interviews begin in January and will be conducted in person for those who live in the national capital region and by video conference for those outside the region.

Candidates are expected to be available for the interview at the date, time and place indicated by the House of Commons. At the time of the interview, candidates must provide contact information for two references. A reference may be a teacher, school principal, guidance counsellor, administrator of an academic institution or someone who is not a family member and who has supervised the candidate during a paid or volunteer activity. During the final selection process, the results of reference checks, as well as provincial representation, diversity and gender balance are taken into consideration.

Selected candidates will be contacted via email to confirm their interest in joining the page program and will receive a formal letter of offer by the end of March.
